Italian biologist, Lazzaro Spallanzani is most often credited person for discovering ultrasonography. Lazzaro Spallanzani (1729-1799) was a physiologist, professor and priest who carried out numerous experiments that led to great insights in human and animal biology.
Francis Galton in 1893 invented the Galton whistle, an adjustable whistle that produced ultrasound, which he used to measure the hearing range of humans and other animals, demonstrating that many animals could hear sounds above the hearing range of humans. The first article on the history of ultrasound was written in 1948. [3] .
Norman McDicken and Carmel Moran give a succinct overview of some early developments. Tony Whittingham gives a detailed historical account of the creation and development of the Diasonograph, a unique ultrasound B-scanner, designed and developed in Scotland.
5 Απρ 2018 · Answering the Question: Who Invented Ultrasound? It’s easy to credit Dr. Ian Donald and engineer Tom Brown with the invention of ultrasound. However, the actual technology dates back to the late 1700s and it went through plenty of discoveries and changes over the years.
17 Φεβ 2024 · Ian Donald introduced the ultrasound in diagnostic and medicine in 1956, when he used the one-dimensional A-mode (amplitude mode) to measure the parietal diameter of the fetal head. Two years later, Donald and Brown presented the ultrasound image of a female genital tumor.
21 Οκτ 2014 · 1794 – Lazzaro Spallanzani, an Italian physiologist and biologist, discovers that bats navigate in the dark through the reflection of high frequency sounds (echolocation). Spallanzani’s discovery becomes the basis of ultrasound physics.
4 Νοε 2015 · A sonar device was the first practical application of ultrasound and piezoelectric technology that was developed during World War I to detect submerged submarines. The early 1900s was an exciting time of discovery and development for ultrasonics, and the potential for this branch of physics and engineering was applied to many different industries.
