5 Ιαν 2015 · I tried EVERYTHING I could find: tapping F8 repeatedly, holding F8, hold shift while tapping F8, hold shift AND F8, etc. I did realize that the only keys that work during boot up is F2 and F12, which appear on the Dell splash screen, but if I press F2, it says entering system settings, and if I press F12, the computer beeps.

17 Μαρ 2011 · The F# keys on the mac are mapped to alternate functions like play|pause. Try holding down Function and pressing F8 to get the "default" behavior.
The PC will not boot up in Safe Mode; when using F8, the only option available on the Boot menu is 'select a boot first device'. I select the hard disk and press 'enter' but the PC then boots up as normal.

4 Μαΐ 2023 · The technique is to repeatedly tap the F8 key until the startup menu appears. Sometimes you will fill up the buffer memory with all the key taps and get an error message or the computer will complain by beeping. Also, the F8 key may not work with a USB keyboard because USB drivers have not yet been loaded.
