What is Absolute Error? Absolute Error is the amount of error in your measurements. It is the difference between the measured value and “true” value. For example, if a scale states 90 pounds but you know your true weight is 89 pounds, then the scale has an absolute error of 90 lbs – 89 lbs = 1 lbs.

Absolute Error Formula. If x is the actual value of a quantity and x 0 is the measured value of the quantity, then the absolute error value can be calculated using the formula. Δx = x 0 -x. Here, Δx is called an absolute error.
The formula to calculate Absolute Error is: Absolute\:error=\left|Observed\:Value-True\:Value\right| Absoluteerror = ∣Observed Value −T rueValue∣. Or we can write, Absolute\:error=\left|x_1-x_2\right| Absoluteerror = ∣x1 −x2∣. Where x_1 x1 is the Observed value and x_2 x2 is the True value.
