11 Ιαν 2016 · Typically, the blood count of a patient with acute EBV-associated IM reveals leukocytosis with lymphocytosis whereas the streptococcal tonsillitis is rather associated with neutrophilia. Additionally, atypical reactive lymphocytes are found in the blood smear in classical IM caused by EBV or CMV.

8 Αυγ 2023 · Tonsillitis, or inflammation of the tonsils, is a common disease and makes up approximately 1.3% of outpatient visits. It is predominantly the result of a viral or bacterial infection and, when uncomplicated, presents as a sore throat. Acute tonsillitis is a clinical diagnosis.
3 Σεπ 2022 · The result of this test, which can often be completed in a clinic, produces a count of the different types of blood cells. The profile of what's elevated, what's normal or what's below normal can indicate whether an infection is more likely caused by a bacterial or viral agent.
Adult outpatients with acute pharyngo-tonsillitis between ages of 15 and 80 years old, irrespective of gender, were eligible and were enrolled in this prospective study. The diagnostic criteria for acute pharyngo-tonsillitis included sore throat, histories of fever, erythema of pharyngo-tonsillar mucosa, and, if any, tonsillar exudates.
Routinely performed blood tests for acute tonsillitis are not indicated. After acute streptococcal tonsillitis, there is no need to repeat a pharyngeal swab or any other routine blood tests, urine examinations or cardiological diagnostics such as ECG.
30 Απρ 2024 · Tonsillitis may occur in isolation or as part of a generalised pharyngitis. The clinical distinction between tonsillitis and pharyngitis is unclear in the literature, and the condition is often referred to simply as 'acute sore throat'.
A serum monospot test should be carried out to confirm the diagnosis (in people over 4 years of age) and full blood count should also be considered — a raised WBC count with lymphocytosis and atypical lymphocytes is suggestive of infectious mononucleosis.
