Dictamnus albus is a species of flowering plant in the family Rutaceae. It is also known as burning bush, [2] dittany, [2] gas plant[2] or fraxinella. [2] This herbaceous perennial has several geographical variants. [3] It is native to warm, open woodland habitats in southern Europe, north Africa and much of Asia.
In the summer, the plant, also known as the “gas plant,” exudes a variety of volatile oils that can catch fire readily and may give the impression that the bush is burning. So was Moses witnessing the combustion of a mix of terpenes, flavonoids, coumarins and phenylpropanoids?

7 Μαρ 2023 · The gas plant blooms in late spring and summer with light purple-pink or white flowers. Seed pods that form after the blooming period is over offer ornamental interest. It's these seed pods that are the inspiration behind the plant's common names—it's also sometimes referred to as Burning Bush.
Showy spikes of spidery-looking white flowers appear in early summer. In hot weather old flowers or seed pods emit a flammable oil and a match held below the spike on a still night will ignite a burst of vapor leading to the common name, Gas Plant.
The gas plant is an old-school classic; the gas plant is an erect, clumping perennial that blooms with small pink or white flowers from late spring to early summer. The flowers (pink or white) and leaves emit a powerful aromatic vapor that can ignite, hence the names of Burning Bush and gas plant.
