Studded leather in DnD is indeed a leather armour with studs or spikes. You are correct that it is connected to the brigandine- the studded leather is simply people back in the early days of DnD who have misinterpreted brigandines, and since then it has just stuck around.
31 Ιουλ 2021 · Studded leather doesn’t inhibit the movement of the bard and also doesn’t mess with spellcasting. While it isn’t a requirement, if you find that you need more protection than the standard set of bard’s clothes can provide, studded leather can really help your bard out.

1 Δεκ 2017 · As it stands right now, they are very close. However, there are a few advantages that the studded leather has for you as it stands. First of all, as Miniman said, you can improve your AC for the studded leather armor just by bumping up your DEX. (Something you may want to do as a rogue any way).
If anything, the weight of studded leather is low, but I'd still say brigandine is the closest realistic analog. Either way, game balance necessitates a low AC, lighter weight armor, and I think "studded leather" fits fine.
I've always wondered how a few studs scattered over leather armor were supposed to protect the wearer. It's amusing how many games include studded leather - all because the developers saw it in previous games and over the years it's become an accepted upgrade from leather armor.
