21 Μαΐ 2021 · On this page can be found a series of ten lectures on Greek and Latin metre, delivered to students at the University of Cambridge in Easter Term 2021. They are intended for those who can read Greek and/or Latin poetry but who are curious about the full range of metres used by ancient authors.
Greek Learning Modules. This page incorporates resources to facilitate self-study or study groups, for those who are learning ancient Greek, or who wish to engage with and explore ancient Greek texts. Members of Kosmos Society are running community study groups associated with these resources to support each others’ learning.
I devised these mnemonics for my teaching of Greek metre and its Latin counterparts to students at Oxford since 1998. My aim is twofold: 1) that the mnemonics should represent the Greek quantities (long or short durations) accurately in rhythmical form, using the natural stresses of English to coincide with long and short syllables,

This abridged version of the author's book "Greek Metre" will provide students with a more easily approachable and digestible introduction to the subject. The explanations of basic matters have been simplified, and additional examples have been included to illustrate the commoner metres.
