In the presence of hypermagnesemia, urinary magnesium levels provide an indication of current magnesium intake. Lower urinary magnesium excretion increases urinary calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate supersaturation and could contribute to kidney stone risk.

4 Ιουν 2023 · Mild hypermagnesemia (less than 7 mg/dL) - Asymptomatic or paucisymptomatic: weakness, nausea, dizziness, and confusion. Moderate hypermagnesemia (7 to 12 mg/dL) - Decreased reflexes, worsening of the confusional state and sleepiness, bladder paralysis, flushing, headache, and constipation.
Higher urinary magnesium levels indicate renal magnesium wasting, often secondary to surreptitious diuretic use or one of the familial magnesium-wasting disorders. Treatment. It is unclear whether mild, asymptomatic hypomagnesemia needs to be treated.
Hypermagnesemia is a serum magnesium concentration > 2.6 mg/dL (> (See also Overview of Disorders of Magnesium Concentration.) Symptomatic hypermagnesemia is fairly uncommon. It occurs most commonly in patients with renal failure after ingestion of magnesium-containing drugs, such as antacids or purgatives.
