One of the most visited sites on Aegina is the church of miracle healer Agios Nektarios (Saint Nectarios) and the monastery of Agia Triada (The Holy Trinity) that is located on a higher level overlooking the church.
The Holy Monastery of Holy Trinity - Saint Nektarios is located in Aegina, in the area of Xantos, near the village of Kontos. Access to the monastery can be done either by car, bus or taxi, as it is only 6 km from the port.
Today 14 nuns live in the Monastery of Agios Nektarios. Close to the Monastery, there is an imposing church, dedicated to the Saint. The church has two high bell towers and four series of windows, all covered with red bows. Following the steps up, you reach the church of the Holy Trinity.
Saint Nektarios of Aegina, is the most widely known of Greek Orthodox Saints of the last two centuries. He was born in October 1st, 1846 in Selybria in Eastern Thrace (now in Turkey). He was one of seven children of Dimosthenis and Mpalou Kefalas and at Holy Baptism was given the name Anastasios.
A beautiful monastery and site of pilgrimage for all those who seek healing and guidance from the Holy Saint Nectarios. The saints relics are housed in a coffin inside the holy trinity monastery and this is venerated with faith by people all around the world.
Work began for this purpose in 1904, and the monastery would be dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The Saint from Athens – still a director at Rizarios – guided the nuns and whenever he found time, he visited the monastery where he would spend the last years of his life.
