Irma barreled into the Florida Keys on Sept. 10, its eye crossing Cudjoe Key just east of Key West at 9:10 a.m., while strong wind and rain bands buffeted South Florida.
As Irma hit Florida, tropical storm force winds extended outward up to 400 miles from the center, and hurricane force winds extended up to 80 miles. Hurricane force wind gusts (i.e. 74 MPH or more) were reported along much of the east coast of Florida, from Jacksonville to Miami.
