Individual polygons are named (and sometimes classified) according to the number of sides, combining a Greek-derived numerical prefix with the suffix -gon, e.g. pentagon, dodecagon. The triangle, quadrilateral and nonagon are exceptions, although the regular forms trigon, tetragon, and enneagon are sometimes encountered as well.
More generally, polygons are written with a prefix indicating their number of sides and the suffix -gon. Here is the list as a table of all the different regular geometric shapes of the 2D plane (table of n-sided polygon names):
11 Νοε 2022 · In GCSE we learn the names of polygons with up to 12 sides. Beyond that, the names are less well-known. Few people know the mathematical name for a 23-sided shape, for example (it's an icositrigon). To avoid this difficulty, we can name any n-sided polygon as an n-gon.
A polytope is a geometric object with flat sides, which exists in any general number of dimensions. The following list of polygons, polyhedra and polytopes gives the names of various classes of polytopes and lists some specific examples.
An n-gon is a polygon with n sides; for example, a triangle is a 3-gon. A simple polygon is one which does not intersect itself. More precisely, the only allowed intersections among the line segments that make up the polygon are the shared endpoints of consecutive segments in the polygonal chain.
Names of Polygons. You can make names using this method: BUT, for polygons with 13 or more sides, it is OK (and easier) to write " 13-gon ", " 14-gon " ... " 100-gon", etc. Remembering. Quadrilateral (4 Sides) A Quad Bike has 4 wheels. Pentagon (5 Sides) The " Pentagon " in Washington DC has 5 sides. Hexagon (6 Sides) H oneycomb has H exagons.
PROPERTIES OF N-SIDED REGULAR POLYGONS. When students are first exposed to regular polygons in middle school, they learn their properties by looking at individual examples such as the equilateral triangles(n=3), squares(n=4), and hexagons(n=6).
