A pin router is a special type of router, similar in size and shape to a typical handheld router but with the addition of two horizontal pins that stabilize the router body against the surface of the material being cut. This allows for greater control over the cutting bit and more accurate carving.

What you mention concerning the stress being shared by the guide pin relates to safety and accuracy of the cut, and is one of many advantages of the scheme.
