Rotational symmetry is defined as a type of symmetry in which the image of a given shape is exactly identical to the original shape or image in a complete turn or a full angle rotation or 360° rotation. It exists when a shape is turned, and the shape is identical to the original.
Rotational symmetry, also known as radial symmetry in geometry, is the property a shape has when it looks the same after some rotation by a partial turn. An object's degree of rotational symmetry is the number of distinct orientations in which it looks exactly the same for each rotation.
What is rotational symmetry? Rotational symmetry is the number of times a shape can “fit into itself” when it is rotated 360 degrees about its centre. E.g. A rectangle has a rotational symmetry of order 2 shown below where one vertex is highlighted with a circle and the centre of the shape is indicated with an ‘x’.
