The tendon of semimembranosus appears at the level of the mid-thigh and continues caudally toward the point of insertion at the medial condyle of the tibia.
24 Οκτ 2022 · The semimembranosus is a muscle within the posterior compartment of the thigh. It is located deep to the semitendinosus muscle within the medial aspect of the posterior thigh. Attachments: Originates from the ischial tuberosity (more superiorly than the origin of the semitendinosus and biceps femoris). Attaches to the medial tibial condyle.
The anatomy of the distal insertion of the semimembranosus can be described as the distal semimembranosus complex: infact six different semimembranosus insertions can be identified.
The semimembranosus muscle (/ ˌsɛmiˌmɛmbrəˈnoʊsəs /) is the most medial of the three hamstring muscles in the thigh. It is so named because it has a flat tendon of origin. It lies posteromedially in the thigh, deep to the semitendinosus muscle. It extends the hip joint and flexes the knee joint.
