The standing long jump, also known as the standing broad jump, is an athletics event. It was an Olympic event until 1912. It is one of three standing variants of track and field jumping events, which also include the standing high jump and standing triple jump.
30 Απρ 2021 · In modern times, the long jump has been ever-present in the programme since the modern Olympics Games’ inception in 1896. It was also known as running broad jump in the early days. Until 1912, a variant called standing long jump or broad jump was also present at the Olympics.
The standing jump competitions were dominated by Ray Ewry, who won the Olympic standing long jump titles in 1900, 1904 and 1908. His clearance of 3.47 m (11 ft 4 + 1 ⁄ 2 in) at the 1904 Olympics remained as the Olympic record for the event until its discontinuation in 1912.

At the Olympic Games in 1968, Bob Beamon made the most of the altitude in Mexico City, flying out to a world record 8.90m (29ft 2 1⁄4in). Today, the men’s long jump world record is held by Mike Powell, who jumped 8.95m (29ft 4 1⁄4in) at the 1991 World Championships.
