5 ημέρες πριν · The trade winds of the Pacific represent the eastern and equatorial parts of the air circulation system; they originate in the subtropical high-pressure zones that are most pronounced over the northeast and southeast Pacific between latitudes 30° and 40° N and S, respectively.
Trade winds have been used by captains of sailing ships to cross the world's oceans for centuries. They enabled European colonization of the Americas, and trade routes to become established across the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
12 Απρ 2022 · This study applies a quantitative method to analyze variation in Pacific trade winds in 1950–2020. It's found that the southeast and northeast trade winds enter an acceleration period since the mid to late 1990s while the wind are enhanced in each month of the year.
12 Ιουλ 2023 · Here we show that the last four decades featured a strengthening atmospheric circulation and stronger trade winds over the tropical Pacific, which counteracted externally-forced SST warming.
3 Αυγ 2014 · An unprecedented strengthening of Pacific trade winds since the late 1990s (ref. 1) has caused widespread climate perturbations, including rapid sea-level rise in the western tropical...
9 Φεβ 2014 · Here we show that a pronounced strengthening in Pacific trade winds over the past two decades—unprecedented in observations/reanalysis data and not captured by climate models—is sufficient to...
13 Μαρ 2019 · Overall, the long-term trend of the trade winds in the equatorial Pacific is inhomogeneous, with a strengthening trend in the western equatorial Pacific and a weakening trend in the eastern equatorial Pacific.
