3 Ιουν 2024 · Updates and replaces the 2011 Evaluation, Treatment, and Prevention of Vitamin D Deficiency guideline and focuses on the use of vitamin D to lower the risk of disease in individuals without established indications for vitamin D treatment or 25(OH)D testing.
Traditionally, any well-prepared Vit. D guidelines should reflect clinical practice and therefore must include the following domains: definition of risk groups for low vitamin D; principles of evaluation of Vit. D status by using laboratory measurements; and Vit. D dosing for prevention and treatment.
Consequences of Vitamin D Deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency results in abnormalities in calcium, phosphorous, and bone metabolism. Severe and prolonged deficiency can cause bone mineralization diseases, such as rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults.

This guideline was developed for people who are healthy and without serious health problems. The main goal of this guideline was to see if taking vitamin D pills or getting tested could stop different diseases from happening.
