9 Ιουλ 2018 · The First Crusade (1095-1102) was a military campaign by western European forces to recapture the city of Jerusalem and the Holy Land from Muslim control. Conceived by Pope Urban II following an appeal from the Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos, the Crusade was a success with Christian forces taking control of Jerusalem on 15 July 1099.
The First Crusade (1096–1099) was the first of a series of religious wars, or Crusades, initiated, supported and at times directed by the Latin Church in the Middle Ages. The objective was the recovery of the Holy Land from Islamic rule.
21 Οκτ 2024 · The First Crusade, called in response to a request for help from the Byzantine emperor Alexius Comnenus, was astonishingly successful. The Crusaders conquered Nicaea (in Turkey) and Antioch and then went on to seize Jerusalem, and they established a string of Crusader-ruled states.

However, most of the major events of the First Crusade took place after the agreed departure date: 15 August 1096.
The First Crusade, which took place between 1096 and 1099, was the first of many ‘armed pilgrimages’ to the Holy Land and was the only one to be successful. The crusade marked the church’s successful attempt to reclaim Jerusalem from the Muslims following summons from Pope Urban II to do so.
