The ISO 27145 series includes the communication between the vehicle's on-board diagnostics (OBD) systems and external test equipment within the scope of the World-Wide Harmonized On-Board Diagnostics Global Technical Regulations (WWH-OBD GTR).

WWH-OBD offers enhanced communication capabilities by combining UDS services within the OBD-II system. This amalgamation brings in an extensive range of information, including data from various vehicle types such as commercial vehicles and road vehicles.
ISO 27145-4:2016 defines the requirements to successfully establish, maintain and terminate communication with a vehicle that implements the requirements of the WWH-OBD GTR (Global technical regulation No. 5; see Reference [16]).

Worldwide harmonized OBD consolidates the whole range of OBD specifications for cars and commercial vehicles to create one regulation valid worldwide. The differences to date were of a regional nature (e.g. OBD and EOBD) and at protocol level (J1939-73 or ISO 15765).
ISO 15031 includes the communication between the vehicle's on-board diagnostic (OBD) systems and an external (off-board) “generic” test equipment within the scope of the emissions-related OBD legislation.
