Usage. In Java Edition, if a target already has a status effect with the same id, a new effect only with a longer duration or a higher amplifier can be added. If the new effect has a higher amplifier and a shorter duration, the original effect is hidden.
For the command, see Commands/attribute. This feature is exclusive to Java Edition. An attribute is a value that determines certain properties of mobs, armor stands, and players. Attributes also have modifiers that adjust the strength of their effects.
