The mono-test (mononuclear test) is a test that quickly detects heterophilic antibodies (adhesins). The positive result in the mono-test with concomitant clinical and / or hematologic findings confirms the diagnosis of infectious mononucleosis.

Test Results: Interpretation. The qualitative heterophile antibody test (Monospot) gives either a positive or negative result. The monospot test is 70-92% sensitive and 96-100% specific. This test is commercially-available, takes minutes to perform and provides rapid results.
