14 Μαρ 2016 · Bikes with Pinion gearboxes aren’t cheap. And they’re still mostly limited to the European market. You’ll find complete bikes starting from €2799 (US $3100), but the €4000-5000 (US $4400-5500) price range is a more common price point.

The P-Line is available with 18, 12 or 9 gear options with equally spaced gears ergonomically designed for specific applications. The flagship P1.18 has the smallest gearing steps at just 11.5 %. All gears are real gears, as there is no such thing as gear overlap with a Pinion.
Touring bikes with Pinion gearboxes start at €1999 for a P1.9CR model and €2949 for a P1.18 model, while most premium bike brands offer builds in the €4000-5000 range. Framesets with Pinion gearboxes are often in the €2000-3000 price range.
While both gearboxes are priced incredibly high, the Pinion gearbox is undoubtedly the most expensive gearbox option. The price difference varies a little between manufacturers, but Rohloff bikes are usually somewhere between €600 and €1000 cheaper for the equivalent bike build.
The P1.18 gearbox is built using a 6-gear unit mated to a 3-gear unit – a 6 x 3 gearing type. The P1.12 gearbox is a 4 x 3 type. Gearing optimized for touring use, from trekking to MTB. With a 600 % gear range, the P1.12 transmission far exceeds the performance of a comparable derailleur.
