25 Οκτ 2024 · 1943 steel pennies struck in Philadelphia are generally worth less than a dollar in lower grades. Coins graded XF40 – which the independent coin graders the PCGS describe as “extremely fine” – are worth around a dollar. Coins graded 60 and above are known as “mint state”.

In total, over one billion steel cents were struck in 1943 across the three mints. The Philadelphia Mint predictably produced the most since it was the largest facility.
In 1943, the Philadelphia Mint coined 684,628,670 Steel Pennies without mint marks. In January 2010, an AU 58 sold for $218,500. But an MS 68+ was $33,600 in November 2020.

They have a better value than the 1943 steel pennies without mint marks. It’s because the Denver mint made them in lesser numbers.

The 1943 steel penny has consistent values across its Philadelphia (no mint mark), Denver (“D” mint mark), and San Francisco (“S” mint mark) versions. Their values are low for all grades except the mid-to-high Mint-State grades.
The value of 1943 Steel Pennies in circulated conditions ranges from $0.05 to $1. Those in common uncirculated conditions are worth up to $27, however, in the highest grades, these coins can fetch up to $35,000. To date, the highest price ever realized for a 1943 steel penny was $33,600 in 2020 at Stack’s Bowers.
