A 1948 wheat penny that is well-preserved, say in “mint” condition (or what coin collectors call uncirculated or mint state), can be worth 75 cents to $5 … or more. In fact, the most valuable 1948 penny was sold in 2012 for $10,350.
1948 wheat pennies with no mint mark are those struck in Philadelphia. These are the most valuable coins of the issue. In circulated conditions, they’re worth anywhere between $0.05 to $0.25.
26 Μαρ 2024 · In circulated condition, this coin is worth between $0.05 and $0.35. In uncirculated condition, you can get your hands on a 1948 no-mintmark wheatie for about $12.50. According to the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), the finest example of a 1948-P penny is a red one graded MS67 and sold for $10,350 in 2012.
You’ll notice that the “no mint mark” variant is the most valuable at its highest grades, so it holds the auction record of $10,350. The next best variant to collect is the 1948-D wheat penny, which has a $750 – $1,700 premium for an MS67 grade.
