On the night of September 22-23, 1954, inmates of the Missouri State Penitentiary rioted to protest conditions at the prison. Four inmates were killed, several others wounded, and several guards were wounded as well.

Inmates of the Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) rioted and took guards hostage on the night of September 22-23, 1954. Fires in multiple buildings broke out as a result of the rioting, and four prisoners were killed. These images primarily document the damage done to the buildings of the MSP.
