25 Ιουν 2003 · I have recently replace the distributor cap,coil, points with pertronix setup and all the spark plugs. I notice that the way the distributor is wired is 180 backwards as noted on the service manual. For example spark plug #1 is in #6 distributor, plug #5 is in #3 on the distributor cap.

9 Ιουν 2010 · First, read the firing order cast on the intake manifold if it is stock. The #1 should be on the distributor cap. I think the distributor rotation is CCW, but not sure.

2 Ιουλ 2024 · The firing order for a Ford 289 engine is 1, 5, 4, 2, 6, 3, 7, 8. This sequence is important for the engine to run smoothly and effectively. If the firing order is wrong, it may cause the engine to misfire, overheat, or ignite too early because the spark plugs aren’t connected properly.
13 Ιαν 2020 · There are only 2 firing orders for the SBF- 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 (early 289/302) and 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 (5.0 and 351W). The firing order is determined by the camshaft. If you put a 5.0 or 351W cam in a 289 you have to change the plug wires in the cap to match the firing order.
26 Ιαν 2011 · 66 289 C code. brand new rebuilt 2v carb, new plugs gapped correctly, wires all good. it turns over but will not start. i went thru my ford manual and think i might have the wires on the distributor cap wrong. can anyone tell me the sequence they go on the cap? it has good gas in it but just will not start and run. help help help. thanks.
10 Ιουν 2010 · If you have a stock 289 then the 15426378 firing order is correct. If your engine does not run with this setup then your distributor is out of whack. Pick a #1 lug on your distributor cap.
