The Toyota 2000GT is a limited-production front mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, two-door, two-seat sports car / grand tourer designed by Toyota in collaboration with Yamaha. First displayed to the public at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1965, the 2000GT was manufactured under contract by Yamaha between 1967 and 1970.
1 Ιαν 2020 · Engine / Gearbox. The M-series straight six engine fitted to the 2000 GT was based on the flagship Toyota Crown powerplant. In the pursuit of greater output, the Crown unit was substantially modified. Most significant was the presence of a special Yamaha-designed aluminium twin cam head with wide 79° valves and hemispherical combustion chambers.
Toyota's inspection standards were extremely strict, and the 2000GT had trouble meeting them. It was particularly hard to eliminate water leakage and the squeaking sound of the wiper blades. Each problem, though, was solved one at a time, and the first market-ready model was completed in February 1967. .

The engine was derived from the Crown saloon and extensively modified by Yamaha to produce 150bhp. The straight six engine was fitted in an X-backbone type chassis which was very similar to a Lotus Elan chassis.
10 Ιουν 2016 · A key-turn starts the engine, and it catches smoothly from the starter like a good "six" should. The engine likes to idle at 1200 rpm or so, but there is no mechanical clatter to be heard either...
21 Νοε 2021 · The most immediate reaction to seeing the 2000 GT in the flesh is noticing just how remarkably small it is, significantly more so than one might assume from photos. It’s similar in size to an NA Miata, but even lower, by several inches.
