The Boss 429 engine was offered late in 1969 and was rated at over 370 horsepower. It had aluminum heads with extremely large free flowing ports, contoured exhaust manifolds, a high rise intake manifold to help it gain horses. The block was a strengthened 429 cast block.

20 Φεβ 2024 · Ford released the 429 Boss as a homologated engine for NASCAR in 1969. At the time, the 426 HEMI owned the oval, and Ford intended on taking the crown with the 429 Boss. As a result, Ford created 1,358 429 Boss engines that were all placed in the Mustang instead of the Torino, which was Ford’s entrant for the 1970 NASCAR season.
The Ford Mustang Boss 429's engine is a naturally aspirated petrol, 7 litre, overhead valve 90 degree V 8 cylinder with 2 valves per cylinder. This powerplant develops 375 bhp (380 PS/280 kW) of power at 5200 rpm, and maximum torque of 665 N·m (490 lb·ft/67.8 kgm) at 3400 rpm.
The Boss 429 was born of Ford's need to qualify 500 examples of its new racing engine for NASCAR. But instead of putting production units in the midsize Torinos it ran in stock-car racing, Ford offered the engines in its restyled '69 Mustang fastback.
To compete with the Mopar HEMI engine in NASCAR, Ford launched the BOSS 429 V8 in 1969. It was built as a limited production Mustang Fastback to meet the required homologation of 500 units. The ’69 BOSS became the ultimate Mustang after the ‘clydesdale’ body was used for the 1970 version.
