The Department of Trade and Industry (Filipino: Kagawaran ng Kalakalan at Industriya, abbreviated as DTI) is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for the advancement, promotion, governance, regulation, management and growth of industry and trade.
In the early 80s, the national economic development goal of the Marcos government required the need to hew industrial promotion efforts with the expansion of Philippine trade overseas.
The DTI promotes income prospects through a comprehensive development and promotion programme for micro, small, and medium-sized firms (MSMEs), often known as the 7Ms of MSME development: Mindset, Mastery, Mentoring, Machine, Money, Market, and Negosyo Models.
