Fractional Currency is U.S. Paper Money that has a face value smaller than $1. After the Civil War, people did not believe in the U.S. Dollar, making Fractional Currency worthless and precious metals popular.
The two-cent piece was produced by the Mint of the United States for circulation from 1864 to 1872 and for collectors in 1873. Designed by James B. Longacre, there were decreasing mintages each year, as other minor coins such as the nickel proved more popular. It was abolished by the Mint Act of 1873.
9 Μαρ 2021 · From 1806 to 1835 nothing was heard of a two-cent piece but in the latter year Treasury Secretary Levi Woodbury resurrected the idea. (Woodbury also thought that a gold dollar was needed by the public.) Woodbury wanted a billon coinage for the two-cent piece and suggested that it be nine-tenths copper and one-tenth silver.
18 Οκτ 2024 · Fractional Currency is also called Postal Currency. It was used in exchange for postage. It was printed for fourteen years, between August 1862 and February 1876. The paper bills are smaller than the standard printed currency of the same era and lack serial numbers.
