Matthew Henry :: Commentary on 2 Chronicles 7. Chapter 7. In this chapter we have God's answer to Solomon's prayer. I. His public answer by fire from heaven, which consumed the sacrifices (v. 1), with which the priests and people were much affected (v. 2, 3).
The Temple Dedicated. A. Dedication by God and man. 1. (2 Chronicles 7:1-3) The temple is dedicated by God with fire from heaven. When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

This chapter is occupied with three subjects. First, the description of Heaven's acceptance of the dedicated temple by fire (2 Chronicles 7:1-3). Secondly, the sacrifices and glad feasting of Solomon and all Israel for several days (2 Chronicles 7:4-11).
Clarke's Commentary. Solomon having ended his prayer, the fire of the Lord comes down from heaven and consumes the offerings, 2 Chronicles 7:1. The people and the priests see this, and glorify God, and offer sacrifices, 2 Chronicles 7:2-4.
