To make sure that an Excel 2007 or later workbook does not have compatibility issues that cause a significant loss of functionality or a minor loss of fidelity in an earlier version of Excel, you can run the Compatibility Checker.
To verify that a workbook is compatible with Excel 2013, Excel 2010, or Excel 2007, run the Compatibility Checker manually the first time you save your workbook. Then set the Compatibility Checker to run automatically every time you save that workbook.

I'm still an avid user of Excel 2003 - my own toolbars, lots of custom buttons linked to macros, most actions one click instead of up to five - it is just the perfect version of Excel.
