The men's national basketball team of the United States won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Defending the gold medal won by the 2008 team in the previous Olympic Games, the Americans qualified for the 2012 Games after winning the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
The US teid the Olympic record of 78 points in a half by again scoring 78 points in the second half in route to a 156-73 victory. The 83 point victory is the largest by the US ever, the largest since the shot clock, and the third largest ever (Iraq lost two games by 100 in the 1948 Olympics).
