24 Σεπ 2009 · My guess is your block is an early model 22r which is a tall deck. This means a 22RE timing chain will be way to short. If your local to me I have a 22R timing chain you can use to check with. I think you got a 84 or early block and head. Also not sure if u pull the intake or not but if not then do it and see if it has pair shaped exhaust ports.

9 Ιαν 2005 · Anyone out there know how to identify 20r, 22r, and 21r p'u engines? I have several Chinooks which are being restored. Most have 20r engines. But one, in a 75 Chinook, has no decal on the engine, and no model number on the plate below the alternator -- only a serial number there.
26 Ιουν 2010 · With a 22re the best way to tell the year is with a float test. Throw the engine block into a lake or the ocean. If it floats it is a desirable year engine and you should use it.
