Map below shows 1.4 million of these global lakes. But according to satellite data, there are 117 million lakes to be found worldwide.

Lake Baikal in winter. Lake Baikal, in southern Siberia and Russia, is an astounding geographical feature. Covering 31,722 km 2 (12,247 mi 2), it holds the title of the world's deepest freshwater lake, with depths that plunge up to 1,642 m (5,387 ft).
