6 Αυγ 2024 · 25 minute read. What should you choose for hunting, the .270 or the .308 cartridge? Some within the hunting community say you can make a decision with a coin toss. Both are outstanding and have have stood the test of time for decades. Having said that, the .270 and .308 have their differences, and a good hunter should know them.
The .270 Winchester has a flatter trajectory and less recoil than the .308. So what does that mean for its energy? Here we have a similar relationship as we did with velocity. Right out of the gate, the .308 has an advantage, with 2,879 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle compared to the .270’s 2,686 ft-lbs.
Pros. . 270. Widely available and easy to reload. High velocity and lesser wind drift. Flat trajectory, mild recoil, and long range. Good sectional density. Offers deep penetration with a light bullet. . 308. Widely available and many options to choose from. Versatile round; can be used in semi-auto rifles as well.
11 Ιαν 2022 · Now a 180 grain 308 will give you more recoil than a 130 grain 270. However, when we compare a 130 or 150 grain 270 round with a 147 to 168 308 round, the difference in recoil is negligible. The same goes for muzzle rise.
