The 2AR-FE engine is an in-line, 4-cylinder, 2.5-liter, 16-valve DOHC engine. This engine uses the Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing-intelligent) system, DIS (Direct Ignition System), ACIS (Acoustic Control Induction System) and ETCS-i (Electronic Throttle Control System-intelligent).
• 2AR-FE. The key to reliability is the simplicity, so the list of basic AR specific defects is extremely small - standard for Toyota VVT knock when starting and water pump leaks. Traditional EFI 2AR-FE can be considered the best of all new Toyota engines since early 1990s.
