“Three crosses on a lonely hill!” On each a man was dying. Each of them has its own distinctive lesson for us to learn today. On the central Cross the Son of God died for sin.
Three crosses – three different men. There were three crosses on Calvary on the day Jesus Christ was crucified. “And when they had come to the place called Calvary [the Place of a Skull] there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right hand and the other on the left.” Luke 23:33.
8 Σεπ 2016 · This morning I want to direct you to a strange but wonderful sight – three crosses on a hill. We are going to see Jesus being crucified between two thieves. Jesus, the spotless, holy lamb of God dies between two sinners. Why would God allow His precious Son to die like this?
Looking at the three crosses of Calvary, we shall learn what our attitude to our own cross can be, and what will result if we (1) reject it as did the bad thief, (2) accept it as the good thief did, or (3) embrace it with Jesus.
Three crosses in a row. Usually we see only one; the one Jesus hung on, as its significance is so much greater than the other two. However, we would like to focus on all three. THE CROSS ON THE RIGHT. On this right-handed cross we see the figure of a dying thief. He is in pain and suffering.
Both names mean “skull.” The Bible does not tell us whether it was a hill or a level area. But it does tell us that there were three crosses on which three persons were executed that day (Luke 23:32-33). On one side was A CROSS OF REBELLION.
