.300 AAC Blackout (also known as .300 BLK or 7.62x35) is a cartridge originally developed for U.S. military special operations. Wanting something with better performance than 5.56 NATO, top military officials sought a .30-caliber round capable of ballistic performance similar to the Russian 7.62x39mm (think Soviet SKS and AK-47).
The 300 Blackout is an intermediate-class rifle cartridge for target shooting, hunting, home defense, and plinking. The 300 Blackout was developed in 2010 for a short-barreled and suppressed M4 carbine. It uses a necked-up 5.56 NATO case, a shortened 5.56 with a .30-caliber bullet.
The .300 AAC Blackout (7.62×35mm, 300 BLK) is a rifle cartridge. The purpose of this cartridge is to have an intermediate .30 caliber cartridge in an AR-15 rifle, while preserving the 30-round capacity of standard AR-15 magazines. It also comes in subsonic varieties.
