20 Σεπ 2024 · The hardness of 304 stainless steel, also known as 18-8 stainless steel due to its composition of approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel, typically ranges from 70 to 90 HRB (Rockwell B) in its annealed condition. If cold worked, the hardness can increase to about 30 to 40 HRC (Rockwell C).
Hardness Conversion Chart. What is the Hardness of Stainless Steel? Hardness is the ability to withstand surface indentation (localized plastic deformation) and scratching.
Grade 304L, the low carbon version of 304, does not require post-weld annealing and so is extensively used in heavy gauge components (about 5mm and over). Grade 304H with its higher carbon content finds application at elevated temperatures.
18 Μαΐ 2005 · Type 304 is the most versatile and widely used stainless steel. 304 stainless steel is an austenitic grade that can be severely deep drawn. The properties, applications and fabrication details are provided for 304 stainless steel.
