This is especially true if you had a complete hysterectomy (removal of the uterus with cervix) and now have a vaginal cuff. Most of the time, the discharge is a normal part of healing.
Vaginal discharge can occur years after a hysterectomy. Causes of vaginal discharge after hysterectomy include residual tissue, infections, and hormonal changes. Symptoms may include abnormal color or consistency of discharge, foul odor, itching or irritation, and pain or discomfort.
Ectopic pregnancy after hysterectomy is a very uncommon event, but its frequency is increasing. Since first reported by Wendler in 1895 [1], fifty-six cases of post-hysterectomy ectopic pregnancies were reported by this author in 2009 [2].
