The process began in July 2022. After a public-comment period, the State Superintendent’s Academic Standards Review Council examined those comments in September 2022 and recommended revision of those standards. Writing teams have developed draft standards in each subject-specific area.

Why are academic standards important? Standards provide goals for teaching and learning. Standards are clear statements about what students must know and be able to do. What does an academic standard look like? Seventh grade mathematics: solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume.
