27 Οκτ 2021 · 3W ignition module replacement. I got a plane on a trade that came with a 3W 106 TOC (blue head). I tried to start the engine but was not getting a spark. I took the module out and set it on the bench -- hooked everything up, then started getting a spark.
All engines beginning at 55 ccm can be delivered as a twin-spark (TS) version. Both ignitions work independently of one another here. The following benefits can be achieved using the TS version: The engine runs at a lower idle; general operational behaviour is quieter.
I have a 3w 80 Xi that i suspect has a bad ignition module. It ran great 2 saturdays ago. I took it out this past saturday, and it ran great on the first flight.
The microprocessor-controlled ignition enables simple engine control. The programmed ignition curve is exactly matched to the engines and guarantees good running characteristics in all rotation-al-speed ranges. The standard ignition can be operated with a voltage of 6 V up to 8.4 V (2-cell LiPo).
Consideration needs to be given to the placement of the electronic ignition module. Avoid placing the module in the path of hot air. Mount the ignition module using the four supplied rubber grommets so as to create a 1/16" gap between the ignition module and the mounting surface. Without this 1/16" gap the ignition module can overheat.
With increasing rpm a pre-ignition timing up to 30 degree is needed. This is achieved with our new system using a high precision rpm-check by two magnets built-in the hub of the engine.
