The .475 Linebaugh was introduced around 1988, for a custom, five-shot Ruger Blackhawk single-action revolver. The .475 is a wildcat cartridge made by cutting a .45-70 case to a length of 1.4 inches (36 mm), and necking it to accept a .475 bullet.

John Linebaugh is responsible for bringing his namesake .475 into this world by cutting the .45-70 Government down to 1.4 inches and necking the case to .476 inches.
The 480 Ruger is viewed by some as a “.475 Special”, a slightly downgraded version of the super-magnum cartridge. In fact, .480 Ruger rounds will fit and function in a .475 Linebaugh revolver, just as a .44 Special will fit and function in revolvers chambered for the .44 Magnum.
3 Ιουν 2015 · OK, love my 480 Ruger, and have started reloading for it. I recently went to one of our local establishments and found that they have 12 boxes of 475 LB ammo for 16.00 a box!! That is .80 cents a round. I can't even buy the bullets for that.
In 2003, Ruger introduced the .480 Ruger, which is essentially a .475 Linebaugh shortened to 1.285 inches with a marginally lower pressure ceiling (48,000 psi for the .480 Ruger vs. 50,000 psi for the .475 Linebaugh).
