Tribal education departments (TED’s) are departments within American Indian nations that are responsible for supporting the education of its members regardless of whether they attend public, private, charter, or Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools, either on or off reservation.
The Tribes of Wisconsin reference book, prepared by the Wisconsin Department of Administration, contains a brief history for each of Wisconsin’s American Indian nations, as well as information about elected tribal officials, tribal governments, statistics, and demographics.
The BIE implements federal Indian education programs for roughly 46,000 students at 183 schools across the United States. Quality instruction and safe facilities empowers the next generation of Native American leadership and remains an important and top priority for Indian Affairs.
