26 Δεκ 2017 · By the end of this week, I will be purchasing the parts to assemble a 24 inch heavy barrel 6.5 Grendel upper receiver. This build will be for varmint/target shooting (<1000 Yards). I keep running into a big debate vs twist rate on 24 inch heavy barrels. 1/8 vs 1/9.
26 Φεβ 2013 · The shorter barrels require faster twist to stabilize long pills, while the longer barrels don't. There isn't a huge advantage to a 24" over a 16" when talking 6.5 Grendel. If you are pushing the velocity with hand loads, your gas system length will be the bigger factor, combined with barrel length.
Looking at having a barrel custom made and was wondering whats the best twist rate for the Grendel. I shoot pretty much everything under 130gr.'s, but i'd like to get get good accuracy from heavier bullets as well. Any suggestions?
