There are six basic leads discussed below and 6 precordial leads which will be discussed later. The basic leads consist of leads I, II and III and the augmented leads AVR, AVL and AVF.

Named after French cardiologist and electrophysiolgist Guy Hugues Fontaine (1936-2018). Leads are placed as shown: Right Arm (RA) over the manubrium; Left Arm (LA) over the xiphoid process;

To start with we will cover the basics of the ECG, how it is recorded and the basic physiology. The 12-lead ECG misleadingly only has 10 electrodes (sometimes also called leads but to avoid confusion we will refer to them as electrodes).
