I'd like to hear form people who shoot this caliber. I'm thinking of going with a 24" Heavy Sporter with a 1:8 twist for heavier pills.

At lunch (depending on whom I was eating with), the conversation would occasionally drift towards hunting. Some of the guys used the 6.5X55mm on large elk (moose to us) and felt no problems. For any large and especially for dangerous game, I'd prefer the 30-06 with heavier bullets.
29 Δεκ 2011 · I am shooting the 6.5 X 55 swede at about 3000 fps using Reloader 17 and approx. 44 grains of powder with a smk 142grain bullet, I have no high pressure signs. Still working on Load development but getting better than 1/2 moa on 5 shot groups.
1 Μαΐ 2018 · The attraction of the 6.5×55 is it's mild recoil and superb down-range performance. Ample bullet selection — 90 to 160 grain — gives the cartridge plenty of versatility and makes it a gem for reloaders. A higher sectional density gives the 6.5 better penetration than other caliber bullets of a similar weight.
