27 Νοε 2015 · Yes, if an 8" diff, it would fit any 8" rear housing. The Pinto/Mustang II had an 8" rear as an option and it would fit the diff in it. It is the same width as a 65/66 Mustang axle housing.
6 Δεκ 2010 · Add 5" to these figures and it will give you the overall width from wheel flange-to-wheel flange. The 8.8" rear end wasn't put in service in the Mustangs until 1986, when the Mustangs went to fuel injected 5.0L engines [NOT the same thing as a MODULAR engine].

8 Οκτ 2011 · The Ranger and Aerostar rears are the wrong width for a Mustang, and the pinion is off center as well. Lots of people have used the Explorer rear in 67-70s with no problem.
6 Αυγ 2020 · I recently put together a sort hybrid 8.8 axle for my ‘37 Chevy. Used a ‘86/‘93 Mustang housing, Left side 5 lug Ranger axles on both sides, Ranger 10” brakes and LSD 3.73 gears, 59” width. Ranger housings are heavier constructed than Mustang models and Explorer are heavier still.
