17 Μαρ 2009 · I have a friend that has a Tolley 8br and I called him today to ask about the gun. He values his gun at $1200. I have fired this gun and it has 34" Damascus barrels and was reproofed in 2001 for nitro. However, he only shoots black powder in it. This gun is a very strong 90% with the maker's hard case, containers & tools.
16 Οκτ 2021 · looks like a nice “punt gun” which would have been used for market shooting of large numbers of waterfowl from a small boat or punt. With Damascus barrels it should be considered a black powder only shotgun. Short summary on history from another forum below.
3 Οκτ 2023 · By the late 19th century, the barrels on 8-gauge shotguns were made of fluid steel and able to take the pressure of smokeless powder. That meant the 8 gauge could deliver a load of lead shot in the range of 2 to 2.5 ounces.

A very good J & W. Tolley, double 8-bore, hammer gun. 36” steel barrels by Thomas Bland & Sons, the action with through lumps and rebounding back-locks engraved with scrolls and vignettes of wildfowl in natural settings. The metalwork retains a high percentage of original finish, screw and pin slots line-up correctly and are in good condition.
